Here we see some very rugged country in our beloved nations rocky mountain west. This here was a hard place to get to in my Jeep, or walking for that matter. The light nas very intense and was shining down to give a bas-relief effect to the jagged spires making up this region. I painted this first as a 12" x 20" study panel on site. Later, I made that into this set piece in more size for getting across the grandeur of this place.
